EYE PCR’s fixOflex Shows Promising Results in Pediatric Cataract Surgery
At EYE PCR, we are committed to advancing cataract treatment solutions, and we are excited to share promising results on the use of our innovative device, fixOflex, in a pediatric case study. The findings come from a recent study conducted at a Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinic, where fixOflex was used to address bilateral cataracts in a young patient with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus.
Study Overview
The study involved a 14-year-old patient with cataracts in both eyes. During surgery, a standard intraocular lens (IOL) implant was placed in the left eye, while the right eye received the fixOflex intraocular ring to secure the IOL in the optimal position within the capsular bag. Over a 6-month follow-up, clinical evaluations revealed notable differences in outcomes between the two eyes.
Key Findings
The eye treated with fixOflex demonstrated:
• No signs of posterior capsule opacification (PCO): Unlike the left eye with the standard IOL, which developed significant PCO, the fixOflex-treated eye showed clear posterior capsule maintenance, a critical factor in maintaining long-term visual quality in pediatric patients.
• Superior visual outcomes: The right eye achieved better uncorrected distance visual acuity and more accurate spherical equivalent, closely aligning with pre-surgery biometry targets.
• Effective lens positioning: By maintaining an optimal capsular shape, fixOflex helped secure the IOL in the desired position, reducing the risk of post-surgery complications common in pediatric cataract cases.
